Light and Ultra light model Lately I acquired an ultralight model (Super allégé). It is a 1971 and it came with an extra barrel, a counterweight (which I have never seen before) and a case. Following my acquisition, I did some research and something is puzzling me about this Super Lightweight series. Following the catalogues I have, the FN offered a Light model (Allégé) in 12, 16 and 20 gauge and the Super-Light model (Super Allégé) in 12, 16 and 20 gauge. S&V doesn’t distinguish the two models. I believe the Light model was the one with the alloy trigger group and a steel receiver and the Super Light Model had the alloy receiver and both model were offered together at the same time. What do you think?
Very nice. I see they have mid beads on the barrel. Interesting. I have a much older barrel that also has the mid bead, but mine is missing. I have been on the look out for one, but so far, no luck.
I think the subject is very confusing. My own hypothesis is that the first Super Lightweights only had the aluminum trigger plate. Later they went to aluminum receivers but kept the same name — at least for Browning imports. Then there is the Super Allege Chrome. These have a different finish and I honestly don’t know what the receiver is made of. But they’re not the same as the Super Lightweights. As for the weight, my guess is it’s there to mitigate recoil and damage to the shooter and the stock when used at the range, then taken off to enjoy a light gun while hunting. Except for Win7stw, hunters don’t shoot much.
The weight used with a short barrel 26” when it was king on the skeet field. Used to balance the gun back to neutral feel between the hands or slight muzzle heavy to even out the swing for skeet with short barrel and gives mass for recoil reduction on the shoulder. Too tail heavy and gun becomes too much whip for some of the crossing and incoming clay games. Nice gun and kit

Not sure if this fits in with this post but thought this may be an alloy receiver lightweight version. Lucky to see an A5 here let alone a silver one.

Interesting, I always wonder if the Light and Super Light were commercialized in the US. C’est très intéressant, je me suis toujours demandé si les modèles Léger et Super Allégé furent commercialisés aux É.U.
