I'm waiting to take delivery of a Browning X-Bolt in .223 rem,and it's screwcut M14x1,but,have heard tales of there not being enough shoulder to securely seat a moderator (we are allowed these in the UK)and to have it re-cut 1/2"unf.I'd like to hear from anyone who has had problems with this, please.

    thanks,

    Alan :)

Unfortunately i don't have a ton of knowledge with using moderators in the U.S. since its just about impossible to get one where i live. The one thing i do know is that the few i see that have them do have it 1/2 "cut. That's not to say what you have wont work but it seems the norm is 1/2". did you have it cut or did it come already cut?

Hi Billy, the rifle comes cut from the factory,at m14x1 which really is an odd size, most rifles are cut 1/2"x20 unf.The reason for the original question is because i was told that with the factory cut doesn't give much bearing (1mm) for the moderator to mate to. When I get the rifle (very soon,I hope) I'll consider having it re-cut to 1/2".
