I've got an early Superposed with a Y tang. Unfortunately the stock doesn't quite fit me so I'd like to put a different gun on the stock to use it, while retaining the originality of the original stock.

Y tang stocks are rare in my area of the world.
Can a U tang stock be converted to fit on a Y tang by cutting out of the inletting the upper parts of the Y? Or were the changes to the inletting more substancial than just the tops of the Y?

    Great question.

I'll be looking forward to seeing the answers.

...and I'll go down and take a look at the one Y tang and several U tang guns I have on hand to see what I can figure out.

"U" tang left, "Y" tang right.

It looks like there would be a gap along the sides of the "Y" tang if fitted with the "U" tang stock.
