Steve, I am late to this but will throw this out there for discussion and interpretation.

Most autos post war use the receiver as an extension to your sighting plane which is why they point well and feel good to just about anybody who picks it up.
Rem 1100 or your trusty 870 good example. Rib is flush fit with receiver and lifts very gradually. Very visually pleasing accomodating to most.
A5 or other humpbacks require way more visual discipline and mounting consistency (gunfit) to maintain that ideal sight picture consistently up and over the receiver as the back is right close to your eye. Not everybody can just walk up and feel comfortable seeing the right things with an A5. That’s why some love them and others hate them.

Length of your neck, face features , and where you sit on the gun with eye position is a very individual thing we are all built different ,and certainly comes into play way more with a humpback and shooting it really well.
From my experiences not a one size fits all setup.
Find somebody who is reputable known gun fitter to have a look at you and tell them what your seeing.
Your shoulder and cheek will thank you.
