Picked up a rifled slug barrel for a Remington 870., Barrel is made by Remington. But the scope mounting is of a type I haven't encountered yet. Is this for some Picatiny rail mounting plate or some other unique device?
Yes! SOLVED: It is the barrel mount for the scope cantilever. If you've seen the cantilever-scope mount for a slug gun on 870, 1100-, 11-87, etc.... this is the mounting point on the barrel. It is not a stand-alone scope mount. Now all I need to do is find a cantilever arm....
Another option is going with the M lock version of the top mount. I've done that on my combo turkey/slug gun. I can then take my optics (red dot, scope, etc) off another firearm without having to buy new glass. The only caveat is that the M lock and the locking base of the optics you choose, may be higher than the normal cantilever scope with rings. So you may need to adjust your cheek weld.
This needs a specific cantilever with the elongated stud that fixes it in alignment with the corresponding divot in the mount. Not sure that any ol' common top rail will work.
