Hey everyone, new poster from Australia. Just purchased an FN Hi Power recently and want to track down the period of time it was manufactured. I think it was made before 1962 as it still features an internal extractor but... there is no "thumbprint" on the slide (right side/forward) and I thought all pre '62 models featured that.

Serial numbers are not very helpful in dating earlier High Powers and wonder if this might feature a custom serial number. There should be other marks but it looks like everything has been obliterated by the engravings. If other proof marks still exist on the barrel or anywhere inside, they might be helpful it narrowing down a date. Without the standard markings it's difficult to even pin down a mfg.

Seems like one of a kind...

The engraving is probably Mexican or other South American country and slide without a thumbprint could be from an Argentine, with the majority of factory markings gone it is difficult to properly date or identify.

It would be interesting to see internal proof marks if they still exist.

I guess the OP has not come back with any more information, I am seeing markings on the bottom of the mag that have been engraved over.....looks like German police markings.

@lbmikey is on the right direction, LGK markings on bottom of mag, and serial number 9055, both coincide with pre T-series pistols made in early 60s.
Internal extractor and no thumprint on the slide only coincide in early 60s.
