Watch the bars (cartridge stops)on each side of the receiver that butt up to the magazine follower. When the slide comes to the rear the slide on the bolt should be like a wedge and open the cartridge stops and a shell should be released from the magazine onto the carrier. It is a distinct feel when the bars open and the carrier drops to pick up the shell. I’d examine the bolt slide and cartridge stops.
