Hey friends, I haven’t posted much lately. I took a new job around 2 years ago. Between the 3 hour daily commute and my kids activities I haven’t had much time to tinker with anything fun related. However, I got promoted and will be at my company’s headquarters building in the town I live in. No more commuting starting Jan 2nd!!! Anyway Oct 12th was pheasant opener. I only had a couple hours because I had to get to my boys last football game. I shot two with my 1925 Auto 5 16. Should have had my birds but couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. No time for good pictures either. I was able to go out yesterday and took the 1910 straight stock out. I shot much better but had to work a lot harder to find my birds. My youngest boy came with and his watch said we put on 8.5 miles. Missed two birds but the three I got were stoned on the first shot. I was telling ranger I think I would like this gun better with a 30” barrel. Lots of birds and I have lots of vacation on the books so hopefully I can get out a lot this season
Thanks, l am going to be out of my comfort zone but it’ll be worth it. I’ll get 15 hours a week of my life back
No kidding. We watch the traffic reports on TV and are so thankful we never had that daily grind. Not that we never had to commute, but when we did it was by air and only 4 times a month. Even then, it was rare to drive to the airport during rush hour. Though it still sucked.
Congratulations for your well deserved promotion. I am very lucky as I have to drive only 10 minutes to get to work. Your 1925 looks very nice. Did you rework the stocks and the checkering?
Thanks Marc! The gun in the pic is in the 1910-1912 serial number range. Yes I refinished the stock and recut the checkering
Congrats on the promotion. You holding out on me buddy? You doing checkering now? Love that color on the stock.
Thank you. Holding out on the promotion or checkering? As far as the checkering I lightly chased the existing checkering with a single point tool
Here is the post about this gun. I really need to get I to Glenrock for bluing like I said I’d do a couple years ago. I keep hoping to land an elk tag there so I can drop it off in person. https://browningowners.com/forum/index.php?threads/1910-1912-16-gauge.11369/page-2&_params=Array
Both, I know that drive was a pain in the butt. I drove like that for 4 years, sucked big time, you covered way more ground than I, due to traffic but about same length of time. I don't miss that at all. I hope you get that tag; I want to see their rust blue.
Had a great day today. Took my boys hunting today and my boy got some shooting in. Had great dog work including a beautiful water retrieve by my younger dog.
Missed out on the last three weekends of bird season trying to get my boy his first deer. Unfortunately we didn’t get one. I have some extra vacation I have to use or lose so I went out today for a few hours. Shot the worst I’ve shot in a long time. I missed the first three birds…..twice each!!! Hit the next two on the first shot. Missed the next one twice. Got my last one with one shot. 11 shells to get 3 birds is embarrassing, thought my dogs were going to quit on me.
Wasatch Wings and Clay. Four Auto-5 12 ga. in use. Son on left just became engaged this last weekend. My FiL on the right.
Took a different stick today thinking that was part of my shooting problem. Turns out it must be the operator as I struggled hitting roosters. I went 3 for 3 on the partridge though.
My little guy was bored this afternoon and asked if we could go hunting. How could I turn that request down? It was 7 degrees when we left the house but no wind. Hunting late season birds without wind is always a challenge. I should have had my 3rd but it got up on my 8 o’clock and flew behind me to the right. Tried my best to spin around in the cattails but didn’t connect. Had a great afternoon with the little man
Nice pics as usual. Very interesting to see in the background the effect of the treed windbreak which allows the snow to accumulate.
