I may start another topic just to see how it goes.

I’m retired. I do Jack Sh!t all day. Except on Wednesdays which is Skeet Night.

In a Calvin and Hobbes strip Calvin said “There’s never enough time to do all the nothing you want”. Now there is.

KBob, Geese are moving over the house here also. We have resident geese that stay here year around. Regular duck season starts Saturday. Can't get out then but will in the coming week. Hoping the Noreaster storm we just had started birds moving. Quite a few deer moving with archery season and small game season starting. Seeing a number hit along the road. Rudolph 31, How long have you been retired. In my 6th year, everyone thinks we have all this time, I wonder how I got it all done when I was working. Ranger, Your going to get the truck all completed and Rangerette will decide she wants a 65 Mustang Convertible.

Retired and same. Way busier than I thought I’d be. Some days I wonder how I ever had time to work !! Been fishing exactly twice. Haven’t had the motorcycle out in months.
All the “free time” gets volunteered into something because “ you’re retired, what else you have to do??”
Right now I’m just glad it’s not 100° with 90% or more humidity. That’s rough on old farts.

I’m in my 6th year also. And I don’t exactly do nothing, just nothing all that interesting. I shoot at least once a week. We do things with friends, etc. Sometimes we go on trips. Portugal last year, Italy the year before that.

I’ve been working out daily. Nothing heavy duty, I’m just trying to keep the muscle and bone mass that I’ve got into old age. And I’m losing weight — AI told me that I was working out too hard and getting my heart rate into an anaerobic zone. That’s important because six months before retirement I took a sleep study, not because I was concerned about OSA but because I wanted to use up some of the sick leave I’d built up. Well, I got three months off, but if I wanted to keep my FAA Medical Certificate, I’d be chained to CPAP usage. I’d quit using it shortly after retirement and quit flying altogether. Now I’m back on it and expect to regain my medical soon. But if I lose enough weight, I can pass another study and toss the machine once and for all.

Once I get the medical certificate, I’m thinking of getting back into flying sailplanes. My last flight in one was circa 1980. I hear they need tow plane pilots at the soaring club, so maybe I’ll do that too. And I may look for a flying club that has something cool, like a Decathlon aerobatic airplane. Nothing bone crushing, just 3G loops and cloverleafs.

So, more than you wanted to know! Aren’t you sorry you asked?

Well I for one am looking forward to retirement and see light at the tunnel in 3 years.
There is absolutely no shortage of 1/2 finished things around the homestead and barn to keep me occupied but at my pace instead of someone else's deadlines, ideas and expectations.
I keep fit too and will continue to do so.
Hopefully when retired will make a last trip to US to do some gun clubs and hunting. My best memories are stomping around in Pa and Georgia.
Rudolph sounds like you have done amazing things and will continue.

Retirement is great because you can do things at a moments notice. I rarely have plans, things such as chores just come up when they do. Stress has been greatly reduced since I left work. You really do slow down and smell the roses. I've noticed that I end up driving slower, letting the more impatient drivers have the right of way.

Unfortunately you do have more trips to medical specialists. Sometimes I feel like Norm in Cheers when I go to my doctors office. Everybody knows me..

Good advice on keeping muscle mass as you age. Did a manageable 4-mile hike in the Tetons recently and although I had to take a break or two, the altitude didn't affect me as much as I thought.

Nope not sorry at all. I like to know what other folks are doing with their time. There are things that I don't need to know like when you are on the throne, but it is funny ever once in a while. Thanks for sharing.

Well, I am in the young group of the old farts at 55, but I ain't gonna retire. I'm still yelling at the retired guy driving slow in the left lane. Probably giving him the middle finger actually. Yes, I have road rage but I'm working through it. I do agree with the working out. It sucks getting old.

Just got home and fixing dinner, damn I am super busy at the new job. I haven't been this busy in years. I feel like a kid in a candy store. The new place is honest and generally wants to do the customer right. I think I have found my new home. It is nice being the only BMW master tech. I was told when I interviewed that I would get all the BMW's and they were not kidding. That also means you get some bullshit too, but I can handle it all.

Glad everything is working out for all. Auzzie, you will like retirement. I highly recommend it. Ranger, Glad the new job is working out. Rudy 31, Hope all goes the way you want. They tried a CPAP on me. Hated the thing, couldn't sleep. Musky, Sounds like things are working out for you. Hiking the Teton's is no small thing. When I went grouse hunting in N.H. last fall, I was good for about 3 to 4 hours. Felt like I had my rear end kicked. Going to put new camo on my duck boat today. Will try to post a picture of the finished product.

Me too, but I endured it because my job depended on it. After parking the brakes for the last time, I quit. Over the years I convinced myself it was just a racket, taking, and failing, multiple sleep studies. But AI made the difference for me. It explained the results, with my O2 levels falling into the 80’s and just how bad that was for the heart and brain. It was also right there every step of the way, finding solutions and offering suggestions that I previously had to make a doctor’s appointment to ask.

Mask technology has improved since 2020 also. I’m now using a “hybrid mask” that covers the mouth and cups under the nose. It’s not ideal, but it’s no longer the torture device of 6 years ago.

The AI assistant is also helping me lose weight. I’m down 15lbs since July and my goal will be reached when I lose another 7. At that weight, my neck circumference may be reduced enough to ditch the machine entirely. And I’m not starving myself, I eat plenty of meat and vegetables. It’s the bread and potatoes I’ve had to give up. Also, I’ve found that when you eat is just as as important as what.

Another rambling post, and I apologize. But Max, I encourage you, and all of our friends here not to ignore this problem like I did. AI is like having a personal trainer on the payroll.

Sold my Winchester Model 70 Featherweight 30-06 a few months back. At 7 lbs or so, the thing just kicked like a mule. To make matters worse, I had it glass bedded years ago, but getting decent groups was never in the cards.

After talking with a hunter out in Wyoming who has taken numerous deer and elk with a 270 Win. I rekindled that desire to pick one up. Although my FFL buddy likes most of the 6.5 caliber varieties, I prefer a tried and true cartridge that's available nationwide.

So I ordered a BAR MK4 Hunter in 270 Win and topping it off with a Leupold VR3 4.5×14-40 mm. Browning has a 10% rebate and Leupold is currently knocking off $100.

I haven't shot a BAR in a 270 but shooting my Garand and M1A are very comfortable compared to a similarly calibered bolt action.

Something had to take up that vacant space in the gun safe..

I was also a mask user, got tired of the hose and finally took it off. That was about 4 years ago. I sleep like shit. I have been waiting on the VA to get me into a sleep study. It should be soon. They afre now offering Inspire. Hope I can try it out.
  16. Rudolph31

I thought of trying the Inspire device, but changed my mind. The idea of having something implanted turned me off. The mask was the easiest, although still a PITA. The best solution is to lose weight. As your neck thins to below 16”, your airway should no longer collapse. I’m at 16” now. I’ve also seen a gadget advertised that stimulates your throat muscles, but unfortunately AI told me it was a scam.

Well, I am still a lean, mean fighting machine and not overweight so I would love to try it. I am the same weight as I was in High school. I really don't feel like I slept any better with the machine then I do now. Everyone said I would feel better when I stopped smoking too, that is a lie. I don't have migraines anymore but that is the only thing that changed.
