Things are finally starting to change around here. Some maples have started getting a hint of red and the Nighthawks are commencing thier flocking for the migration to South America. Which means, huntin' season is right around the corner.

I just picked up some Rage broadheads for the crossbow and a new tree stand safety harness. The archery opener for deer and fall turkey is Oct 1.

Although I like what BigMax eludes to about staying on terra firma. I think Ill also set up a ground blind at a choke point between a couple of tree-less soybean fields, then place some turkey hen decoys as a confidence spread. I've seen deer and turkey browse in close proximity to each other in the past. I could be totally wrong but who knows, if I'm lucky I can bag both.

On another note, I've heard hunters are now using drones to locate downed deer. I have a feeling that they are also going to be used for trophy buck locations. Kind of like Active Imaging for fish locations.

One of the landowners we turkey hunt with, has raised blinds with cameras and GPS screens. He lets you know where and when the birds are underneath. I prefer to call them in and experience the anticipation of a strutting bird coming into range.

Ranger, hope you fared well after the blow. I know folks in Gary Indiana are without power for weeks now. Shitty infrastructure and lack of tree trimming. Makes the case for underground services.

Musky, I hope you are feeling better. You mentioned Lymes the other week and went to the doctors. Hope all is well. It's nothing to fool with.

I seem to be doing fine, thanks for asking. The bulls eye around the bite mark has dissipated. Probably due to the antibiotics. Unfortunately the doctors in the area are not very proactive for Lyme and say to come back if things worsen. I plan to contact some agencies who specialize in testing for tick borne diseases. But, yes to your point, its nothing to mess with.

Took the wife to Walmart this morning to get her some things, hit the sporting goods section and got several boxes of 7 1/2 - 28 ga. shells. Highlight of the day, Went to our favorite restaurant /Stables/ each got a great order of ribs and several Jack and Cokes to wash them down. Came home and took a nap. Auzzie, Hope you wore a big hat and had plenty of sunblock. How did you make out at the shoot? What shotgun did you use.?

Well Big Max feel I didn't shoot close to potential especially for a State event but suprise came home with a class position. Don't shoot anything flash only a 30" Remington 1100 comp synthetic.
Yes plastered in sunscreen and dripping sweat... nature served up a tough day for so called first weekend of Spring.

Cutting up tree limbs, from another big tree that fell. Mowing grass and cleaning up the yard. This just might be a weeklong job.

Auzzie, Glad you had a good time and placed where you did. Can't go wrong with shooting an 1100. They take a lickin and keep on tickin like the old Timex watches. Ranger, I know it's warm in Texas, Don't work too hard, it's too hot.

Just finished cutting the lawn. Sitting on the front porch with a cold PBR.

Perusing Gunbroker for another basket case Stevens SXS for possible adoption.

I wonder if the IRS would let me start a 501-C3 non-profit as a shelter for used and abused shotguns?

Ranger, Hope everything works out the way you want. Seems like the dove population has taken a nosedive. No birds at my regular hunting spot. Been hunting that farm for 38 years and always had a good time. Shooting was good even though the farmer retired from his diary operation. Drove around the county to different diary operations that were cutting silage trying to find new spots. No birds were seen and the owners were only allowing family on the farm. Can't blame them for that. Plenty of geese around. Maybe it's time to put the dove decoys and my 20 and 28 ga guns away and get my 12 ga. and waterfowl gear out. Early goose season is in till Sept. 25th. Musky, Gunbroker is a good way to get in trouble. Never bought any firearms that way. I do enjoy looking at the menu though.
