I ordered some 80 grain ELD but they are long and I'm wondering if any here has used them and if they have any advice going forward.

So I gave it a try and as a result have an answer to my own question. The bullet is too long to use in the rifle.
Setting aside the fact that it won't fit in the magazine, it won't fit in the chamber. There's no way to chamber the round without having the bullet far to far in the barrel. It will work in 223 wylde or in 556 chambers

My only .223's are all "other brands", black, and hated by Democrats. ;-)
The highest I go up to is 62gr. for my pony plinksters (1/7 twist), and stick with 55gr. on the LBR's (little black rifles) that have a 1/9" twist. Of course with these things, accuracy is my hunt, so a heavier bullet will not benefit me other than matching the ammunition to the rifle's ROT.
