My son got drawn for a rare junior hunt for cow elk. He shot my fairly new BAR ShortTrac in .308. Using the Sellier & Bellot eXergy 180 grain copper bullets I posted about in the ammo forum, he dropped this 405 lb. cow elk with one shot to the neck at 150 yards. Despite the great end result, he didn't get a complete pass through and I didn't dissect the thick muscular neck to recover the bullet. I would have liked to see it and have it as a souvenir for him, as well as evaluate the expansion on it. Regardless, the rifle and caliber selection were perfect for this hunt. Proud Dad and happy kid. Here are some pics...

Was he aiming for the neck ?

No. He was aiming for behind the shoulder in a 20+ mph wind.
