I recently got a 1954 FN Mauser and was told that it was basically a Browning. Since I'm nitpicky on what to call a gun, I was wondering if anyone could clear this up. Thanks

Welcome to the Browning Owners Forum !!

If it's labeled a Fabrique Nationale...then that's what it is.

John Moses Browning worked with FN of Herstal Belgium right before his death in 1926.

  3. I read up on the FN Mauser bolt actions many years ago. From what I remember, if you can find one, just the action is worth around $300 and that was about 15 years ago.

I found one on a J. C. Higgens rifle chambered for a .270. The stock was nothing to brag about but, the action was great and it was a tack driver. I bought the rifle for $180, put a Leopold 3x9 scope on it, and used it for many years.
